Dr. Barie is Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and an attending surgeon at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Barie specializes in high-risk surgery, trauma, surgical critical care, surgical infections and gastrointestinal surgery. He has research expertise in outcomes of critical illness, effects of infection on the host and multiple organ failure, and was a Lead Principle Investigator of a clinical study considered to be the definitive trial for Eli Lilly’s Xigris for septic shock. Dr. Barie is active nationally and internationally as a member of more than 20 surgical societies, he is past-president of the Society for Critical Care Medicine and the past-president of the Surgical Infection Society. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of journal Surgical Infections and an Editor for the journal Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Barie earned his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine.
